What is Learning Management?

People talk about wealth management, weight management, anger management…what is learning management?

Management implies the use of effective strategies to achieve a goal. Learning management is a total package: we help children learn to succeed in school, doing whatever it takes. We help clear the obstacles found specifically in that child-learner’s life so that he/she can maximize on their potentials.

Parents are involved in “learning management” everyday, whether they realize it or not. How well they manage their child’s learning depends on many factors. Most parents can manage very well without our help, but when it comes to children with learning disabilities, even the most resourceful parents with the most resilient and well-adjusted child can use some help. There are certain things that we, as professionals in Special Education, have access to that the general public does not. For example, we have the academic background, the experience, and the professional network. In dealing with children with learning challenges, DIY for many parents may not be the best way to tackle the problem.

To explain how we function as learning management professionals: let’s use an analogy. We function in a similar way as the private banking professionals who put together investment portfolios for their clients. Each client has his/her unique set of circumstances and the “management package” has to reflect the client’s wishes. Some clients can tolerate risks and some cannot; others are keen to try new things to have better financial returns while some are extremely conservative and would only consider the most conventional and established approaches to investment. The goal of both the investment consultant and the learning management consultant is the same: to achieve the most “growth” given the resources invested, in a way the client is comfortable with.

The discerning client knows that maximizing returns for one’s effort is not a simple matter. It is the job of a professional and this service is a valuable one. In searching for a consultant, it is not a matter of whose fees are the lower, but rather, it should be a question of who can help you reach your goals in the most direct and effective way. Delivering results in a timely way is very important. Lost time equals lost opportunities. When it comes to learning, your child deserves the very best!
